LinkedIn sells several paid products at quite different prices, and the more expensive ones are aimed at sales and recruitment professionals rather than ordinary job seekers.
| Product | Aimed at |
|---|---|
| Premium Career | Job seekers. The cheapest tier |
| Premium Business | General professional use |
| Sales Navigator | Sales professionals. Substantially more expensive |
| Recruiter Lite | Hiring. The most expensive consumer-accessible tier |
| Learning | Courses, sold separately or bundled with Premium |
If a LinkedIn charge seems far too large for a social network subscription, check which tier the account holds. Sales Navigator and Recruiter Lite are business tools priced accordingly, and they are easy to start from a trial offer.
The free trial is the usual entry point
LinkedIn promotes free trials of Premium persistently, through profile prompts, job application flows and messaging limits. The trial requires a payment method and converts automatically at the end of the period.
People commonly start a trial to send a message or see who viewed their profile during a job search, then forget it while focusing on interviews. The first charge arrives a month later, by which point the job search may have concluded.
Annual billing
LinkedIn offers a discount for annual payment, producing one large charge a year. Combined with the higher tiers, this can be a very substantial single amount and is frequently the charge that prompts someone to contact their bank.
Where it is billed from
Subscriptions started in the LinkedIn mobile app may be billed by Apple or Google rather than LinkedIn, appearing under those descriptors instead. LinkedIn cannot cancel those, and the app store price is often higher than subscribing through a browser.
Cancelling
- Open Settings, then Subscriptions on the LinkedIn website, which shows the tier and renewal date.
- Check the app stores if nothing appears there, since the billing may sit with Apple or Google.
- Cancel before the renewal date, as LinkedIn generally does not refund a period already started.
- Note that cancelling keeps your profile and connections intact. Only the Premium features stop.
