Google runs many billed services through a shared billing platform, and the suffix after GOOGLE is the only clue as to which one. Unlike most merchants in this directory, the descriptor here is genuinely informative once you know how to read it.

The two that catch people out
Google One is the most commonly forgotten Google subscription in the UK. It usually starts when someone runs out of the free 15GB, accepts an upgrade prompt on their phone, and never thinks about it again. It is cheap enough to slip past a casual statement scan for years.
Google Ads behaves unlike a normal subscription. It bills when your accrued spend crosses a threshold, not on a fixed date, so charges arrive at irregular intervals in irregular amounts. A dormant campaign left running can generate charges long after someone stopped paying attention to it.
Finding the itemised bill
- Go to pay.google.com while signed in to the Google account you suspect. This is the central billing view across most Google consumer products.
- Check every Google account you have. A personal Gmail, an old university account and a work account may each carry separate billing against the same card.
- For Play purchases, use play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory, which itemises app and in-app purchases that pay.google.com may summarise.
- For Workspace, use admin.google.com and open Billing. Workspace is billed per user, so the total changes when accounts are added or removed.
A note on Google Play and family accounts
If you have set up a Google family group and you are the family manager, purchases by family members can bill to your card. As with Apple, in-app purchases in games are the usual source of unexpected amounts, and purchase approval has to be enabled in advance to prevent them.
