What is SPOTIFY on my bank statement?

This is your Spotify Premium subscription. It appears as SPOTIFY or SPOTIFY*PREMIUM — both are the same thing.

Spotify Premium

✓ Legitimate charge

SPOTIFY or SPOTIFY*PREMIUM on your statement is your Spotify Premium music subscription. Spotify's free tier has no charge — so if you're being billed, you're on a paid plan.

Spotify offers several paid tiers: Individual, Duo (for two people at one address), Family (up to 6 accounts), and Student (half price with valid student email). The amount on your statement will differ depending on which plan you're on. Spotify also occasionally runs promotional pricing for new subscribers, which eventually converts to the standard rate.

A common reason people don't recognise the charge is signing up for a free trial that converted automatically after one or three months. Spotify is required to remind you before a trial ends, but these emails can easily land in spam.

Questions about Spotify charges

Why is Spotify charging me more than I expected?
Spotify has raised prices in recent years. You may also be on a Family or Duo plan which costs more than Individual. Log into your Spotify account at spotify.com/account and check your subscription details to see exactly which plan you're on and how much you're paying.
I don't use Spotify — can I get a refund?
Spotify's policy doesn't guarantee refunds for unused subscription time, but if you contact their support team — especially if it's an old forgotten subscription — they will sometimes issue a partial refund as a goodwill gesture. It's worth asking, particularly if you haven't listened recently.
How do I check which Spotify plan I'm on?
Go to spotify.com, log in, click your profile name and select Account. Under the Subscription section you'll see your current plan name, the price, and your next renewal date.
Someone else signed up for Spotify using my card — what do I do?
If you didn't authorise the charge, first check if a family member used your card. If not, contact Spotify support to report the unauthorised use and request a refund. You should also contact your bank to dispute the charge — your bank can reverse it and issue you a new card number if needed.
