Crunchyroll — Anime streaming

✓ Legitimate charge

CRUNCHYROLL or VRVM*CRUNCHYROLL on your bank statement is your Crunchyroll streaming subscription. Crunchyroll is the world's largest anime platform, now owned by Sony, offering thousands of anime series and simulcast episodes from Japan as they air.

The billing code VRVM is a legacy reference from before Sony's acquisition — it comes from Ellation, Crunchyroll's previous parent company. Even after the rebrand and ownership change, some billing still routes through old systems, which is why you may see VRVM*CRUNCHYROLL instead of just CRUNCHYROLL.

There are three subscription tiers: Fan (£6.99/month) gives access to the full catalogue with one simultaneous stream. Mega Fan (£9.99/month) allows four streams at once and offline downloads for mobile viewing. Ultimate Fan (£13.99/month) adds access to digital manga. All paid tiers remove adverts from the streaming experience.

Questions about Crunchyroll charges

What does VRVM mean on my bank statement?
VRVM is a legacy billing identifier from Ellation — the company that previously owned Crunchyroll before Sony acquired it. After the acquisition, some payment processing still routes through the old systems, so VRVM*CRUNCHYROLL and plain CRUNCHYROLL refer to exactly the same subscription. You can verify by logging into crunchyroll.com and checking your billing history.
How do I cancel Crunchyroll?
Log into crunchyroll.com, click your profile icon in the top right, and go to Settings → Membership. Click Cancel Membership and confirm. You'll retain access until the end of the current billing cycle — you won't lose access immediately. If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, you'll need to cancel through those platforms instead.
I signed up through the App Store — how do I cancel?
If you subscribed via the Apple App Store, cancel through iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. If you subscribed via Google Play, go to play.google.com → Subscriptions. Cancelling through Crunchyroll's website won't work if the billing is managed by Apple or Google.
Can I get a refund for Crunchyroll?
Crunchyroll's policy generally doesn't provide refunds for the current billing period, but if you contact their support team — especially for an accidental charge or a forgotten trial conversion — they will sometimes refund the most recent payment as a goodwill gesture.
What's the difference between Crunchyroll plans?
Fan (£6.99/month): one stream, full catalogue, some adverts on older content. Mega Fan (£9.99/month): four simultaneous streams, offline downloads, ad-free. Ultimate Fan (£13.99/month): everything in Mega Fan plus access to Crunchyroll's digital manga library. All paid tiers include simulcast episodes shortly after Japan broadcast.
